Visiting those in need is a fundamental practice of Christian life. How can we draw upon the Christian Science nursing arts to help bring forth the “fruits of Love?” Main points to be discussed include: offering to visit (recognizing the need, approaches), pre-visit preparation (prayerful readiness, what to bring), conducting the visit (keeping thought uplifted, responding to needs), and post-visit considerations (follow up, legal and ethical issues). You are invited to attend a workshop entitled “The Art of Visiting and Prayer Watch,” at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ocala, Florida, on Saturday, February 25, 2017, 1:00 to 3:30 PM.
The purpose of this workshop is to share with fellow Christian Scientists some ways to express practical Christly compassion toward those in need. We will explore the metaphysics of caring and how we can draw upon Christian Science nursing prayer to help bring forth comfort and healing to our church congregation and community.
The ministry of Christian Science nursing is much more than “physical thought-taking” or simply non-medical care. It is a metaphysical healing practice in its own right, though not the same approach as our dear Christian Science practitioners. Like all Christian Science healing work, it is divine Love not being “deprived of its manifestation or object.” Past participants of our workshops have told us that they felt newly empowered to pray in ways they had not previously considered. The workshop is organized into two parts.
The Art of Visiting – Visiting those in need is a fundamental practice of Christian life (Matt 25: 31-46). Jackie Rhodes, a Christian Science nurse will lead us in a discussion of the phases of visiting – offering to visit, pre-visit preparation, conducting the visit, and post-visit considerations, including legal and ethical issues.
Prayer Watch – “… where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matt 18: 20) Janet Horton, Endorser and Trainer for Christian Science Military Chaplains, will lead us in a presentation and discussion on prayer watch.

Have you ever explored the biblical roots of Christian Science nursing or thought of caregiving as a way to advance your practice of Christian healing? How do Christian Science nursing arts bless our members, church and community? These questions and more are explored in a workshop, for all Christian Scientists, sponsored by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Vero Beach, and presented by Wellsprings of Florida in conjunction with Tenacre Foundation, and the Philanthropy Forum for Christian Science Nursing. Lunch will be provided (so please rsvp).
